Kandi Everett – Nudes 2008-2011 Sketchbook Series

fishcake presents a one woman show featuring the nude sketches of fine artist and legendary local tattoo artist, Kandi Everett, July 7 – August 20, 2011. This show exemplifies Kandi’s ability to capture the essence of each of her many models in that very moment. Private opening reception July 7; open free to the public from July 8.

Each of Kandi’s sketches takes her approximately three minutes or less to complete before the model changes his or her pose. “Ultimately, I learned how to draw nudes from posing as a model,” explains Kandi. “It is the only way to learn how the model is feeling in that pose when you are drawing him.” It is also the reason she can pick-up on the suppleness, signs of aging, signs of stress, tension and fluidity of the human form all in three minutes.

Kandi earned her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from UH, has been a tattoo artist in Hawaii for 34 years, and has steadily done printmaking for several years. She dove into drawing figures, particularly nudes, in 2008. For the last three years, she has been doing nudes, sometimes in marathon sessions.

fishcake is located at 307c Kamani Street in Kaka’ako. Store hours are 10-6 mon-sat and 11-4 most sundays. For more information contact Betty Lee at 808.593.1231.
