Light Leaks

Below are some photos that Lance Arinaga took of a Heiau a few years ago. A Heiau is an ancient Hawaiian temple or place of worship. A Heiau would be used to treat the sick, a place of refuge or even human sacrifice (very rare). Here is what Lance had to say about the photos:

Just developed a roll of film from 5 years ago (Tmax400). On it I found some photos from a Heiau on the Big Island called Pu’uhonua o Honaunau. As I looked through them i noticed what looked to be light leaks on some shots. (none of these photos are altered in any way). You can see them in some shots but not others even though they were taken consecutively. I was bracketing to ensure i had the correct exposures i wanted. The light leaks or flares become more apparent the deeper i got in the Heiau. They get kind of gnarly toward the end. Being photos from a sacred place makes me think these are not random light leaks.
